Week 8: A Kingdom of Priests

Oct 18, 2026

Last week, God brought His people out of Egypt through the plagues, the Passover and the Red Sea. This week asks why He rescued them. At Mount Sinai (Exodus 19), God calls Israel His treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. They are a people set apart to show the world what life under God’s rule looks like, and this is His promise to Abraham taking shape. Notice the order: God rescues Israel before He gives the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20. They didn’t obey to earn their rescue. They obey because they’ve already been rescued. As you read, watch for the threads of His People and His Mission, and see how 1 Peter 2:4–12 gives the church the same calling: “a royal priesthood, a holy nation.” We haven’t just been saved from something. We’ve been saved for something. Ask yourself whether the way you live shows people what God is like.
